Parents
Congratulations!!
Your daughter is a member of the St. Andrew High School for Girls Key Club and on a whole a part of Kiwanis International's youth recognition, service-learning or leadership development programs. We want you to understand what this means to your child, and encourage your continued involvement and support.
It's no secret that student achievement is directly related to a student's motivation to do well in school.
The earlier a student learns the important lessons of hard work, helping others, and personal growth, the greater the emotional development she will attain. By creating rewarding experiences for students, the following programs help each child maximize personal growth opportunities.
What can parents do?
These programs provide several opportunities for parents and other family members.
First, reinforce the achievement and the involvement at home.
Ask your child to explain what she did to receive the award or to join the club. Display any award proudly. Each youth service club member receives a magazine several times during the year. Take the time to read through the articles. If you display magazines in the family home, add your student's magazine to the assortment.
Second, take the time to visit the school.
Today's schools are in need of support from the community, especially from the parents of its students. Visit the classroom, meet your student at lunch, attend parent-teacher conferences, and participate in any parent-teacher organization. Get to know the teachers and administrators. Volunteer to serve as aids or on parent committees.
Third, investigate becoming a member of Kiwanis, which is dedicated to supporting children. Each Kiwanian Club meets within the community it serves. Information regarding the Kiwanis club that supports your child's school is available at the school.
Parents are always welcome as visitors at local Kiwanis Club meetings.
